Meet the team - Semih

In addition to a pool of freelancers, our team consists of 19 enthusiasts. Who all of these are? During a recurring question-and-answer session, we introduce them all to you. Eltjo Smit was the first and today we give the floor to Semih.

Who is Semih Yilmaz?

Semih is a visual designer and commutes the most. Early every morning he takes the train from Rotterdam, which provides daily input to our WhatsApp group. Not because of the Rotterdam versus Amsterdam story, but rather because of his love-hate relationship with the NS. But even after delays, he still steps into the office here cheerfully and without a morning mood.

Let's start with Eltjo's questions. How do you like your first months at Unc Inc?

It's going very well. I've been working here for over six months now, or actually almost eight months. But it still feels like yesterday that I started here. And I mean that in a positive way! I've learned a lot over the past few months and actually I still am. Especially on a technical level, such as best practices in web design and mobile design.

Furthermore, I really like the culture at Unc Inc. There is no hierarchy. Everyone's opinion is valued, whether you're an intern or one of the founders. And we regularly do fun things, like recently we went to the TonTon club where we played Arcade games with each other all night.

And your car? When are you coming to show it off sometime?

Semih recently bought a new car, until the "delivery" we enthusiastically sympathized with him.

"Voila!"

Semih, what does your week as a visual designer look like?

This week I'm working on a website redesign for Rush Hour. I start with the wireframes, a kind of blueprint of the website. These were provided to me from the UI (User Interface) project, which looked at ease of use and how it could be optimized. With this foundation, I set to work, but first get some inspiration! I look at competitors and the industry and on collection sites I look for other designs that I think are bold and fit within the client's style. Then I give my creativity free rein and start with a first design. I discuss it with the creative director and together we choose a direction in which I will build, layer by layer. Designing a website is like building bricks.

Which project are you most proud of?

I myself am most proud of the ICS-Mastercard project of which I am the project owner from the start. We are working on a redesign of the current website and because I am an end user myself, I can empathize with the product. I am very satisfied with the steps we have taken so far.

Lunchtime!

Despite the office manager's shopping creativity, the sandwich remains the big favorite. We even had to purchase a second sandwich iron because of traffic jams at the machine. So a fairly obvious question to Semih is: what does your perfect sandwich look like?

Semih: My tosti consists of 2 slices of bread with a layer of butter and cheese on the inside. And then I eat it with sweet chili sauce.

And what app or website makes your mouth water?

That's the ABN AMRO mobile app. This one is very user-friendly, you go through the app very smoothly. A great example of how an app puts the user first and makes it as easy and enjoyable as possible.

I also really like The Next Web's website. Again, a lot of attention has been paid to functionality. And as a tech savvy person, I love the content they put online.

Can you describe Unc Inc in one sentence?

A group of people making cool stuff together!

Who do you pass the baton to and what would you like to ask him or her?

I would like to turn to Martijn, one of the founders, next and from him I would like to know, "What is your biggest blunder you have made here at Unc Inc?"
